SEWARD, Alaska (AP) – A Seward couple welcomed the New Year with a new baby.The baby – Daunte Gabrael Latimer – was born at 2:02 a.m. Thursday at the Woman’s Way Midwifery center in Soldotna.

For the 21-year-old parents, Stephanie and Stephen Latimer, it is their first baby.

The baby had been expected on Dec. 27.

In Fairbanks, Rachel and Nick Meurlott welcomed their new baby just before 8 a.m. Thursday at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. The baby also is their first. They named the baby Milo Adventure Meurlott. He was born six days late.
